MountainStar Healthcare executives are making a difference in the healthcare industry nationwide. Those leaders include John Hanshaw, president, and Scott Williams, chief medical officer.
John Hanshaw
John Hanshaw is a healthcare professional with more than 32 years of hospital management experience in four states. In 2005, he was promoted from CEO of St. Mark’s Hospital to his current position as president of MountainStar Healthcare. John is responsible for overseeing nine hospitals in three states, the only satellite emergency department in Utah, and a growing number of outpatient imaging, surgery and physician centers.
In 2008, John was appointed to lead the American Hospital Association’s Section for Metropolitan Hospitals as chair of its national governing council. That same year, John was named as Utah’s Grassroots Champion by the American Hospital Association. The Utah Hospitals & Health Systems Association honored him with the Distinguished Healthcare Executive Award and he was among eight “CEOs of the Year” recognized by Utah Business magazine for exceptional leadership and effectiveness.
John earned a master’s degree in healthcare administration at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas and a bachelor’s degree in business administration/accounting from the University of Arizona.
Scott Williams, M.D.
Scott Williams, M.D., is the chief medical officer at MountainStar Healthcare. In this role, Dr. Williams works closely with the administrative and medical staff leadership to develop a more systematic and comprehensive approach to improving patient care. He established and facilitates physician quality councils that streamline the implementation of best practices at MountainStar hospitals in three states.
Just prior to joining our organization, Dr. Williams served as the vice president for medical affairs at HealthInsight, the designated Medicare quality improvement organization for Utah and Nevada. He also spent twelve years at the Utah Department of Health, including two years as its executive director.
Dr. Williams has been instrumental in the development of a statewide clinical information exchange network in conjunction with the Utah Health Information Network. He is a board-certified pediatrician who completed an internship at the University of Wisconsin as well as pediatric and preventive medicine residencies and a master’s degree in public health at the University of Utah.
